With Insyst EMR, e-prescribing (eRx) is seamlessly integrated using a certified e-prescription service called DosSpot governed by e-prescribe professionals for secure medication management. When a doctor accesses the e-prescription module (after they have gone through proper Identity Proofing and verification), Insyst EMR allows them to search for medications, check drug interactions, and electronically send prescriptions directly to a patient’s preferred pharmacy*. The system ensures real-time eligibility checks, formulary validation, and compliance with DEA, NCPDP, and HIPAA regulations. Pharmacies receive the prescription through the integrated, process it, and update fulfillment status, which is reflected back in Insyst via the DosSpot iFrame, streamlining workflow without requiring direct HL7 handling.
*In order to place any sort of electronic prescription, you will be verified and authenticated so that we make sure you are first who you claim to be and second are properly certified to place eRx orders. Controlled substances require even further proofing and identification. You may have admins get orders ready, but only certified physicians can place those orders. All of this is logged and displayed in the live narrative as well as the Nurse/Physician chart documentation printed when a patient is finalized.

How it works:
Step 1: All users of the EMR are validated and only certified physicians can place orders. Non certified can act as proxy users to get orders ready, but they cannot send the order.
Step 2: Physician selects a patients eRX info
🔹 DosSpot eRx module loads, displaying:
- Medication search & selection
- Pharmacy favoriting
- Dosage, quantity, & instructions input
- Formulary checks (optional)
🔹 Prescriber confirms medication selection and proceeds.
Step 3: Patient Selects Pharmacy
🔹 DosSpot module presents pharmacy options based on:
- Patient’s preferred pharmacy (if stored in DosSpot system)
- Insurance network (optional)
- Nearby pharmacy locations
🔹 Physician selects a pharmacy (retail, mail-order, or specialty).
🔹 Selection is confirmed, and the prescription is routed accordingly.
Step 4: Prescription Transmission & Processing
🔹 DosSpot securely transmits the eRx to the selected pharmacy.
🔹 Pharmacy processes the prescription, performing:
- Medication verification
- Insurance coverage & prior authorization checks
- Generic substitution (if allowed)
Step 5: Medication Dispensing & Follow-Up
🔹 Patient is notified when the prescription is ready for pickup/delivery if setup in DosSpot system.
🔹 Pharmacy updates fulfillment status via transaction logs.
🔹 EMR may trigger automated follow-ups for adherence & refills, physicians can favorite orders for quick access and view reports of their eRx activity*
*A physician can only see his/her activity, but you can give 1 admin the role to see all activity.
